The most beautiful places in our area

🌆 Ålesund – The Venice of the North

Ålesund is a town straight out of a fairy tale — built on several islands connected by bridges and surrounded by water. Known as the Venice of the North, it enchants visitors with its Art Nouveau architecture, colourful townhouses and the atmosphere of a harbour town where time flows a little differently.

From the viewpoint at Fjellstua you can enjoy a wide panorama of fjords and islands, and at Atlanterhavsparken you can experience Norway’s marine life up close.

It is also worth visiting the Boat Museum, strolling along the Brosundet canal and sitting for a while in one of the small cafés by the water.

This town has a soul — maritime, elegant and a little romantic. Everyone who has been here wants to return.

🏔️ Trollstigen – the Troll Road and mountain magic

One of Norway’s most famous scenic routes, Trollstigen is both a challenge and an adventure. Nine sharp hairpin turns climb the steep mountainside of the Isterdalen valley, and at the top awaits a viewpoint with a platform suspended over the abyss.

The views are breathtaking — waterfalls, mountains and mist create a landscape that feels otherworldly.

This route is for skilled and confident drivers – the bends are narrow, steep and require steady control.

The road is open only in summer, usually from late May to October, as winter brings snow and ice that make it impassable.

Trollstigen is more than just a road — it is an encounter with Norwegian nature at its wildest and most majestic.

🌅 Stad – where the sun touches the ocean

The Stad peninsula is one of the most extraordinary places on Norway’s west coast. Here the kingdom of fjords ends, and the real ocean begins – raw, wild and powerful.

On a clear evening, the sun sinks into the sea so slowly that it feels as if time itself pauses. The sky glows with gold, purple and violet, while the waves reflect every shade of the departing day.

It is a perfect destination for a short trip from Voldstad — about 60 kilometres through mountains, valleys and open fields. Along the way, it is worth stopping at viewpoints to feel the sea wind carrying the scent of salt and mist.

At the very end lies Stadlandet – a peninsula where nature still speaks with its own voice. Here, sunsets are unlike anywhere else: longer, quieter, more true.

The sun descends slowly here — as if saying farewell to the fjords. Light dances on the water, and the mountains stand silent in contemplation. It is a moment when no one is in a hurry.

The ocean shimmers like a mirror, and one feels small, yet profoundly happy. Whoever sees it once from the cliff above the sea will never forget what the world looks like in light that slowly fades away.

🐑 Hakkalestranda – a beach and a small animal farm with a big heart

Not every beach in Norway is as friendly and peaceful as Hakkalestranda. This is a place where the ocean meets silence, and golden sand turns into green hills. The sea is open, the landscape wide, and the air filled with the scent of grass and salt.

Right next to the beach lies Hakkalegården – a small animal farm open to visitors. Sheep, goats, rabbits and hens live here, as well as horses and ponies that children can ride.

You can pet the animals, feed them, or simply sit in the sun and watch their calm, gentle life unfold. It is a warm, welcoming place – ideal for families who want to spend the day close to nature.

After a walk along the beach, you can relax by the small café or have a picnic overlooking the ocean. Time moves slower here, and the heart feels lighter.

🪨 Kannesteinen – the stone that knows the power of the sea

West of Måløy, in the village of Oppedal, the sea has been carving a remarkable shape into the rock for thousands of years – the slender, chalice-like Kannesteinen.

It stands alone in the water, as if to prove that time and waves can create something more beautiful than humans ever could. When the tide is low and the full shape is revealed, it looks like a piece of art displayed in nature’s own gallery.

The trip to Kannesteinen is an experience in itself. On the way from Syvde, you cross the impressive Måløy Bridge, connecting the islands with the mainland, offering breathtaking views of the fjord.

It is a perfect one-day trip — with a camera, a thermos, and peace in your heart. A trail and a viewing point are available by the stone.

The best time to visit is when the sea is calm, the water crystal clear, and the afternoon light highlights every contour of the rock. This is one of those places where words fall silent — you simply look.

🌄 In conclusion…

These are just a few of the places you can visit within one hundred kilometres of Feriehus Voldstad. This region is a true treasure of nature – full of fjords, waterfalls, mountains and roads that are adventures in themselves.

Every turn can surprise you with a new view, and every shift of daylight paints the landscape differently. The road winds between the mountains like a silver ribbon. Behind each bend awaits a new sight — a fjord, a lake, a waterfall, or sometimes simply silence.

Within a hundred kilometres, every kilometre feels like a different Norway — from the Art Nouveau streets of Ålesund, to the wild cliffs of Stadlandet, and the warm sands of Hakkalestranda. The weather changes too — sometimes with every turn, sometimes every minute.

It’s impossible to list everything, because beauty here waits at every step – in the stillness of the forest, in sunlight reflected on the water, in the smiles of people who live in tune with nature. Just set off and allow your eyes to linger a little longer.
